Protocol of 9th meeting of Azerbaijan–Latvia Intergovernmental Commission approved
10th meeting to be held in Riga next year

The 9th meeting of the Azerbaijan–Latvia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation was held in the city of Shusha.
According to AZERTAC’s regional correspondent, opening the event, Majnun Mammadov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture and Co-Chair of the Commission from the Azerbaijani side, noted that the meeting was being held in Shusha, a city with a rich history and cultural heritage. He recalled that during the 30-year occupation, Azerbaijan’s territories suffered extensive destruction, and that, under the leadership of Victorious Commander-in-Chief President Ilham Aliyev, these lands were liberated, with large-scale reconstruction efforts now underway.
The Minister emphasized that relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia, spanning more than 30 years, are based on mutual respect, trust, and partnership. He noted that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to further strengthening these ties and highlighted the significant potential for expanding cooperation. Referring to the country’s favorable business environment, he invited Latvian entrepreneurs to invest in Azerbaijan and benefit from its transport and logistics opportunities.
In turn, Armands Krauze, Latvia’s Minister of Agriculture and Co-Chair of the Commission from the Latvian side, congratulated Azerbaijan on the restoration of its territorial integrity and sovereignty and expressed satisfaction that the meeting was being held in Shusha. He stressed that Latvia has consistently supported, and will continue to support, Azerbaijan’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Describing Azerbaijan as an important economic partner, the Latvian Co-Chair noted that his country is interested in developing partnership relations in all areas. Armands Krauze expressed readiness to facilitate the entry of Azerbaijani products into European markets. He also emphasized the importance of establishing the Latvia–Azerbaijan Business Cooperation Council as an effective platform for strengthening business ties and supporting joint initiatives.
At the end of the meeting, the protocol on the results of the 9th session of the Commission was approved. The document envisages further development of bilateral cooperation in increasing trade turnover, investment, agriculture, food security, transport, science, education, labor, employment and social protection, urban planning and construction, environmental protection and forestry, tourism, culture, and other areas of mutual interest. It also reflects the intention to further improve the legal and regulatory framework governing bilateral relations.
The sides agreed to hold the 10th meeting of the Azerbaijan–Latvia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation next year in Riga.
