STATEMENT BY THE MAIN POLICE DEPARTMENT OF BAKU
As a result of fruitful work, realized in the entire Country, including Baku, was maintained social-political stability, which became steadier and steadier in late years, ensured tranquility of people, created necessary conditions fore their vital activities.
However, in the last years, especially in bound with the rapprochement of Presidential elections, the destructive opposition tries to violate social-political stability, so hardly reached in the Country, cause chaos, and thus attempting to impede the process of democratic elections, assume power at any worth.
On 8 September 2003, representatives of the radical opposition committed new graceful action. So, when Fuad Mustafayev, authoritative representative of the candidate to President from the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Ali Kerimli, gave testimony at the Baku Main Police Department, connected with the illegal actions and hooliganism committed by him in the course of TV debates on 6 September and aired by Azerbaijan State TV, dedicated to President elections, with the participation of the candidate to President and their authoritative representatives, gathered before the Department, representatives of opposition, members of the groups later presenting them as journalists, roughly violating public order, arbitrarily frustrated normal work of the close-located schools and other public objects.
To calm the angered group, the Main Police Department of Baku undertook necessary measures, and actions to prevent breach of public order.
The Main Police Department of Baku states that for maintenance of stability and social-political order in the capital, conduction of 15 October Presidential elections in democratic conditions will further decisively undertake necessary measures to prevent cases of arbitrariness, commitment of illegal actions, contradicting Constitution of the Country.
