TRANSPORTATION OF AZERBAIJANI GAS TO EUROPE IS PRIORITY IN COUNTRY’S ENERGY POLICY, FM MAMMADYAROV
Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov 21 September met with the visiting British Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks.
The parties focused on issues of the energy policy of modern world, diversification of energy sources and role of the Caspian basin in energy safety, transportation of the Central Asian region’s energy resources to the European markets and the role of Azerbaijan as a transit country.
Noting the already functioning Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipelines, the Azeri Foreign Minister said transportation of Azerbaijani gas to the European markets is the priority in the country’s energy policy.
Reminding the Memo signed between EU and Azerbaijan, Mr. Mammadyarov said deepening of cooperation in this field depends on activation of the EU’s regional policy.
The British official appraised the policy of integration to the European and western values, also expressed hope for peaceful solution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, and in the frame of international legal norms and principles.
