The latest feature in AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” column takes us on a breathtaking journey to the Galabin Waterfall in the Lerik district.
Lerik District is one of the most popular destinations for both domestic and international tourists. Rising from the shores of the Caspian Sea toward the majestic mountains, this enchanting land stands out with its modern hotels, eco-tourism opportunities in local village homestays, breathtaking natural scenery, soaring peaks, dense forests, and countless natural springs and waterfalls. The natural beauty of Lerik captivates visitors with unique hues and charms throughout every season of the year.
This time, our journey led us to the spectacular Zuvand/Galabin Waterfall, nestled in the heart of Lerik’s captivating nature. To reach the waterfall, we first turned off the main Silk Road highway and traveled about 15 kilometers toward Lerik until reaching the Piran village. From there, given the challenging mountain terrain, we continued our ride with the "Niva" off-roader.
The road leading to the Galabin village is recognized by its rugged mountain landscape. Steep climbs, sharp turns, and mountain tracks cutting through dense forests add a thrill of adventure to the trip. After about 10 kilometers along this scenic route, the drivable road drops away.
From here, a brief yet unforgettable hike begins. Following a forest trail for about 300 meters, the roaring sound of the waterfall echoes through the trees. Just a few minutes later, Galabin Waterfall comes into view in all its grandeur.
Perched at an elevation of nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, the waterfall is fed by pure mountain springs. During the winter season, its water volume increases, creating a magnificent view with a powerful stream. Flowing steadily even during the hottest summer days, the waterfall never fully freezes even in the harsh winter frost—a unique feature that makes Galabin Waterfall an alluring destination year-round.
In recent years, Galabin Waterfall has become an extremely popular natural landmark for tourists visiting Lerik. It is a true hidden gem for photographers, nature enthusiasts, and adventure seekers alike. Everyone who travels here not only enjoys a stunning panorama, but also finds an opportunity to unwind in harmony with the serenity and beauty of nature.
