A side event themed “Early Warning and Climate-Resilient Cities” was organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources as part of the 13th Session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The event was dedicated to the role of multi-hazard early warning systems in strengthening urban resilience against the impacts of climate change. Specifically, discussions focused on mitigating the damage caused by extreme weather events to the environment, urban infrastructure, and residential areas, as well as making science-based, life-saving decisions.
Representatives from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the Turkish State Meteorological Service participated in the panel discussions.
The "Early Warnings for All" (EW4ALL) initiative was launched by the UN Secretary-General in 2022. With the support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Azerbaijan plans to implement a project titled “Strengthening Climate Information and Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems for Increased Resilience in Azerbaijan.”
