UNEP Executive Director praises Azerbaijani youth’s commitment to environmental protection
Baku, July 3, AZERTAC
Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), has shared a post on her official Instagram account, highlighting her visit to Azerbaijan and praising the commitment and contribution of Azerbaijani youth to environmental protection.
“Wherever I travel, one thing always stands out: the leadership, commitment, and energy of young people determined to tackle our shared environmental challenges.
That was certainly true in Baku during World Environment Day, where I had the pleasure of meeting a group of youth leaders to discuss some of our most pressing climate action challenges and, more importantly, the solutions that can help protect their future.
The conversation was made even more magical by the mesmerizing setting of Yanar Dagh, where natural gas has burned continuously on the hillside for generations. After several visits to Baku, I was so happy to finally make it to 'Fire Mountain' and see the burning flames.
From engineering and science students to aspiring doctors and linguists, their dreams, hopes, and determination shone through as we spoke into the night, lit only by the light of these lasting flames,” she said.
“In a fast-paced, rushing world, moments like this feel extra special,” Andersen added, while also thanking the IDEA Public Union for hosting her in Baku.
