Azerbaijan, Iraq discuss prospects for further development of relations

Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has received a delegation led by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iraq Nazar Issa Abdulhadi Al-Khairullah.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stressed the development of bilateral relations between the two peoples on both bilateral and multilateral levels on the basis of existing historical ties. Hailing the level of political dialogue between the two countries, the minister recalled his meetings with his Iraqi counterpart over the past year at various international events. He noted that the meeting of the Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq in Baku last year, as well as the visit of the Iraqi Oil Minister to Azerbaijan made a positive contribution to expanding bilateral cooperation.
The Minister also provided an insight into the situation in the region after the conflict, the implementation of trilateral statements by Azerbaijan, the large-scale restoration and reconstruction work carried out in the liberated areas, the implementation of the necessary work for the return of IDPs to their lands decades later.
Deputy Minister Nazar Issa Abdulhadi Al-Khairullah stressed the importance of the development of bilateral relations. He underlined that it is important to maintain the current political dialogue, including the intensity of contacts between the foreign ministers. He said that Iraq has experience in the field of IDPs, as well as the restoration of destroyed areas, and expressed readiness to share this experience with Azerbaijan. He congratulated Azerbaijan on its restoration work in the region, including its efforts to build future peace in the region.
During the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed his sincere congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Iraq and personally presented the letter addressed to his Iraqi counterpart.
The sides also exchanged views on regional issues of mutual interest.
On the same day, political consultations were held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Iraq. The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, and the Iraqi delegation - by Deputy Foreign Minister Nazar Issa Abdulhadi Al-Khairullah. A number of issues on cooperation were discussed within the political consultations.
