Poland: Plane crash at Chrcynno hangar kills five and injures seven

A Cessna 208 passenger plane fell on a building with a group of people on the airstrip in Chrcynno near Nasielsk (Nowodwór district), Poland. Five people were killed and ten more were injured, according to Rzeczpospolita. “The plane fell on people at the airport in Chrcynno near Nasielsk. A rescue operation is underway. Numerous emergency services were dispatched to the site. Unfortunately, there are fatalities," the "Wirtualny Nowy Dwór" service was the first to report on Facebook. Other media confirmed the information about the victims. Four helicopters of the Polish Medical Air Rescue from Warsaw, Płock, Olsztyn and Sokołów Podlaski took part in the rescue operation, Justyna Sochacka, spokesperson for the Polish Medical Air Rescue in Warsaw, informed Polish Radio. There were also 16 fire engines on the scene. The situation is dynamic. Medical rescue operations are underway. There are probably 12 injured. Two of them underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Paweł Plagowski from the fire brigade in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki reported in an interview with tvnwarszawa.pl.
The crash happened after 19:00. According to "Wirtualny Nowy Dwór", the plane from which parachute jumps are performed crashed into the hangar during landing. This building housed people who had taken shelter from the rain. Only the pilot was on board.
Police officers and representatives of the State Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission are still working at the crash site. The causes of the disaster are being established. The Polish Press Agency reported that there were ten people in the hangar. According to this source, the pilot was killed and two other people are wanted. However, the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Warsaw handed over 21.00 about five fatalities - radio RMF FM determined.
The Chrcynno airstrip, which belongs to the Warsaw Aeroclub, is located about 5 km south-east of Nasielsk.
Eight people were injured in the crash, two of them seriously. A dozen or so more were considered injured - such information was provided by the spokesman for the capital police commander, Nadkom. Sylwester Marczak. Some of the injured people were treated on the spot and then left the scene of the tragedy on their own. Eight injured people were taken to hospitals in Warsaw, Ciechanów and Płońsk. A child is believed to be among the injured, but the age of the child has not been disclosed.
The victims of the accident include people who took shelter in the hangar from the approaching storm.
The crash occurred when the plane was landing in difficult weather conditions, which could have been the cause of the tragedy. Strong winds blew in the area of the airport and a thunderstorm broke out.
The catastrophe in Chrcynno is the most tragic aviation accident in Poland since July 5, 2014, when a small plane carrying parachutists crashed in Topolów near Częstochowa. At that time, 11 people died in the disaster.
