ANAMA, NATO enhance cooperation in humanitarian demining

Samir Poladov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), met with a NATO delegation led by Eirini Lemos-Maniati, Head of NATO HQ’s Arms Control, Disarmament and WMD Non-Proliferation Centre.
The meeting focused on Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation in humanitarian mine action, international support, innovative demining methods, and Azerbaijan’s participation in current and future Science for Peace and Security (SPS) projects.
Samir Poladov said that 437 Azerbaijani citizens had been killed or injured in mine incidents since November 2020, stressing the impact of mines on the return of displaced persons, reconstruction efforts, and the environment. He also briefed the NATO delegation on ANAMA’s operations, training activities, the Goygol Training Center, and its international partnerships in humanitarian mine action.
The meeting highlighted the long-standing cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO in humanitarian demining efforts, including mine clearance, the use of new technologies, and joint projects.
