Azerbaijan Milli Majlis Speaker meets Russian top diplomat
Baku, April 4 (AZERTAC). Speaker of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov has met today Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov.
They discussed a wade range of issues including prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia and interparliamentary ties.
Asadov said the Azerbaijan-Russia relationship are deeply rooted. He noted relations between the two countries were based on mutual respect and friendship. “The dialogue between Azerbaijan and Russia is developing on all spheres,” he added.
Asadov underlined the role of presidents of the two countries in development of bilateral ties. According to him, so far more than 150 documents have been signed between Azerbaijan and Russia which have created strong legal framework for comprehensive development of bilateral ties. He noted at present more than 500 companies were operating in Azerbaijan.
The Speaker also underscored the role of parliaments in development of bilateral relations. Asadov praised Russia`s efforts to contribute to settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He expressed confidence that the official Moscow would increase its role in solution to the problem.
Lavrov, in turn, said relationship between Russia and Azerbaijan had reached the level of strategic partnership, and it also plays an important role in restoration of stability in the South Caucasus region. The minister noted a new investments protection document was prepared between Azerbaijan and Russia. “The approval of this document in parliaments will contribute to increasing trade turnover between the two countries.”
Lavrov also praised cooperation of Azerbaijani and Russian parliamentarians within international organizations, including CIS PA, OSCE PA and CoE.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict the minister said official Moscow was interested in soonest and peaceful settlement of the problem. He added Russia would increase efforts to contribute to resolving the conflict.
The sides also discussed the ongoing developments in the region and world.
