AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV’S VISIT TO UZBEKISTAN
PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV ARRIVES IN SAMARKAND
At the airport, President Ilham Aliyev was friendly welcomed by Head of Samarkand vilayet /region/ Rustam Kholmuradov.
Azerbaijan President first visited the observatory of Ulugbek, where the Head of State was informed that it had been founded by Amir Teymur’s grandson, famous Uzbek astronomer Ulugbek in XV century, and that although destroyed in later times, the observatory had been restored early in XX century.
Then, President Ilham Aliyev arrived at Afrasiyab Museum founded in 1970 and keeping archeological finds and ancient adornments dated from 5-4th centuries B.C. to 7-8th centuries A.D.
President of Azerbaijan also viewed buildings of ancient madrasahs.
Afterwards, President Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to journalists. He described his state visit to Uzbekistan as very successful and expressed confidence that it would promote strengthening fraternity between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. “We - I and President Islam Karimov - will give instructions to relevant governmental structures to take measures for reinforcing economic cooperation between the two countries,” President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said.
Continuing to see historical and cultural sights of Samarkand, President Ilham Aliyev arrived at Mausoleum Gur-Amir, the burial place of Amir Teymur: built in XV century, this mausoleum contains graves of other rulers belonged to Teymurides dynasty.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev also viewed Bibikhanum Mosque, the architectural monument of XVI century, and visited Samarkand’s largest trade center “Siab” market.
