Azerbaijan, Türkiye hold another round of consular consultations

The foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Türkiye held another round of consular consultations in Ankara.
The consultations were led by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Gülsun Erkul, Director General for Consular Affairs and Citizens Abroad of Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the first part of the consultations, the sides exchanged views on the current state of bilateral cooperation in consular affairs. Key topics included the development of the contractual and legal framework, the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens of both states, and the provision of necessary consular assistance. The discussions also covered the expansion of relations in justice (including legal assistance), labor, and social protection.
The Turkish side in the second part of the consultations was led by Ambassador Esin Çakıl, Director General of Migration Policies and Visa Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye. These discussions featured the latest developments in the consular affairs and an exchange of experience regarding migration and visa policies. The Azerbaijani delegation also provided insight into the specific visa and migration regulations implemented during the COP29 session held in Baku in 2024.
Following the consultations, the Azerbaijani delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Presidency of Migration Management. The delegation held a meeting with Fatih Ayna, Director General of Foreigners, where they expressed gratitude to the Turkish side for the support provided in various projects concerning Azerbaijani citizens living in Türkiye. The parties also discussed prospects for further expanding cooperation.
The meetings were also attended by representatives from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Office of the Prosecutor General, as well as officials from Türkiye’s Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, and other relevant institutions.
