Azerbaijan’s FM Bayramov briefs US official on regional issues

On October 6, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Aryeh Lightstone, Senior Advisor to the U.S. Special Envoy for Peace Missions.
The meeting focused on the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan-US bilateral relations, as well as regional developments.
Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted the significance of the historic summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025, in raising Azerbaijan-US relations to the level of a strategic partnership. The sides hailed the rapid development of bilateral ties across various areas following the agreements reached in Washington.
In this regard, the importance of the Strategic Partnership Charter signed between Azerbaijan and the United States on February 10, 2026, in strengthening the institutional framework of bilateral ties and opening up new areas of cooperation was emphasized. The sides reviewed the work of the Charter’s working groups and efforts to develop specific projects and roadmaps for the coming period.
The sides discussed opportunities for expanding Azerbaijan-US economic and energy cooperation. In this regard, the role of agreements reached in energy, investment, high technologies, and other areas during Baku Energy Week and the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum in further strengthening the economic foundations of the bilateral strategic partnership was highlighted.
The Azerbaijani FM briefed the US official on ongoing infrastructure projects implemented to develop the region’s energy, transport, and logistics potential, expand the Middle Corridor, promote investment, and enhance regional connectivity.
The TRIPP project was highlighted as an important initiative for enhancing regional transport and economic connectivity, ensuring uninterrupted connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan through Azerbaijani territory, and expanding regional transit opportunities.
The sides also discussed the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Jeyhun Bayramov provided an overview of Azerbaijan’s efforts to advance its peace agenda, implement the agreements reached, open regional communications, and promote lasting peace and stability in the region, while conveying Azerbaijan’s position on these issues.
The two sides emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to further develop the Azerbaijan-US strategic partnership across all areas of mutual interest and to translate the agreements reached into practical outcomes.
