Berlin to host commemorative event on Khojaly genocide
Baku, February 18 (AZERTAC). A literary event “Karabakh - stories about the lost motherland” dedicated to the 21st anniversary of the Khojaly genocide will take place in Berlin on February 25.
The evening will be organized by the European Azerbaijanis Congress and the State Committee on Work with Diaspora. The event will be attended by president of the European Azerbaijanis Congress Samira Patzer-Ismayilova, Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Germany Parviz Shahbazov, and professor of Potsdam University Wilfred Furman.
The event is expected to see a presentation of a German version of “Karabakh stories” book.
In the book, writer and publicist Gunel Anargizi shared her sweet and bitter memories about the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, which was seized by separatist Armenian forces.
On the night of 25-26 February 1992, the Armenian armed forces, with participation of the Khankendi-based 366th motorized infantry regiment, attacked and ruined, in one night, the town of Khojaly, which had been encircled during months. In this bloody act, they brutally slaughtered civilians, murdering 613 people, abusing corpses, taking 1275 hostages. Of them, the fate of 150 remains unknown. Of the killed, 63 are children, 106 are women and 70 are elders. The military invasion completely wiped out 8 families.
