International travelers visit Aghdam
Aghdam, October 8, AZERTAC
A group of around 40 members of the world-renowned MTP (Most Traveled People) international travelers’ club toured Aghdam as part of a visit to Garabagh and East Zangezur.
Led by American traveler Charles Veley, founder of the MTP club, the delegation includes travelers from 13 countries.
The travelers first visited the Aghdam Juma Mosque, built between 1868 and 1870. The mosque, like other historical and religious sites, was subjected to Armenian vandalism. Following the liberation of Aghdam, the mosque was restored by the Azerbaijani state.
They also toured the historic Imarat Complex, once the palace of Panahali Khan, founder of the Garabagh Khanate. The 18th-century site, which includes mausoleums of members of Garabagh’s ruling family, including Ibrahimkhalil Khan, his son Mehdigulu Khan, and Mehdigulu Khan's daughter, poet Khurshidbanu Natavan, suffered extensive damage during the occupation. Following the liberation of Aghdam, restoration and archaeological work have been underway at the site with the involvement of both local and international experts.
The travelers also viewed newly constructed residential buildings and were briefed on the ongoing restoration efforts there.
This marks the 17th group visit by major international travelers’ clubs to Garabagh and East Zangezur since 2021, offering participants a firsthand look at the extensive reconstruction and restoration projects underway in the liberated territories.
