Italian newspaper highlights Pre-COP29 conference
Rome, October 12, AZERTAC
The Italian newspaper “Notizie Geopolitiche” has published an article highlighting Azerbaijan`s hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The article emphasizes the importance of the Pre-COP29 conference, themed “Enhance Ambition and Enable Action,” held in Baku ahead of COP29.
Titled “Azerbaijan. Towards COP29," the piece quotes President Ilham Aliyev’s address to the Pre-COP29 participants. In his message, President Ilham Aliyev remarked:
“At the national level, we are successfully implementing our socio-economic priority of “clean environment and green growth”. Azerbaijan has announced 2024 as the “Green World Solidarity Year”. Our abundant wind and solar potential enable us to advance renewable agenda. The liberated Karabakh and East Zangezur, declared green energy zones, host sufficient renewable sources.
To provide continuity of efforts, UAE, Azerbaijan and Brazil in their capacities as the Presidencies of COP28, COP29 and COP30, respectively, have launched Climate Troika. It is worth mentioning that a significant progress has been achieved in operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund in Baku, this September. It is my expectation that a historic agreement – the “Baku Accord” will be reached at the COP29, which will go down in history as our collective success.”
The article also highlights the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the "Baku to Belem (B2B) Climate Partnership" between Azerbaijan and Brazil.
