Media representatives view ongoing preparations for COP29 at Baku Olympic Stadium

The COP29 Azerbaijan OC hosted Friday a media tour of the Baku Stadium, the venue for the upcoming COP29 climate conference, with the goal of acquainting local media organisations with the preparations underway.
More than 60 media representatives, including heads of television and radio stations, news agencies, and online news platforms, took part in the tour, during which they were provided with detailed insights into the ongoing preparations for COP29.
The media tour featured the participation of Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and a member of the COP29 Organising Committee, along with Narmin Jarchalova, Chair of COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company and Chief Operating Officer for COP29, as well as heads of relevant departments from the COP29 Azerbaijan OC. Throughout the tour, media representatives received in-depth information regarding the preparations underway to prepare the venue for COP29. It was underscored that the ongoing construction and installation work is nearing completion, with the venue scheduled to be handed over to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in accordance with the established timelines.
During the tour, heads of media organisations and journalists explored both the Blue and Green Zones of the Baku Stadium, gaining insight into the infrastructure, available technology, and various designated areas within the venue. Guests also visited the Media Centre, designed to support the effective work of media representatives throughout the conference. It was pointed out that nearly 2,700 media representatives, including some of the most renowned outlets globally, have been accredited for conference coverage, with the registration process still underway. Spanning an area of 6,325 square metres, the Media Centre is equipped to host 1,200 media representatives working simultaneously, providing optimal conditions for their coverage efforts.
During the media tour, it was also highlighted that, according to the latest figures, the preliminary count of representatives from various countries registered to participate in COP29 has already reached 28,000. Given the tendency for most delegations to register as the event date approaches, a considerable rise in these numbers is expected in the upcoming weeks as the registration process continues.
A key focus has been placed on inclusivity and accessibility as a top priority in the organisation of the COP29 event.
Throughout every stage of construction and installation, the venue’s design has considered all necessary requirements to ensure accessibility for everyone.
