Round table meeting on Khojaly genocide held in Baku
Baku, February 17 (AZERTAC). “The Protection of Rights of Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Azerbaijan” NGO has held a round table meeting on the Khojaly genocide.
Addressing the event, entitled “Khojaly genocide - the tragedy of the 20th century”, the NGO`s head Nadir Abdullayev told of Armenians` vandalism against Azerbaijanis.
He spoke of the history of the Armenian armed forces`s occupation of the town of Khojaly. “The occupation was carried out with active support of several units of the Russian Army`s 366th regiment. Occupation of Khojaly was followed with unprecedented brutalities against the civilian population. In a few hours the aggressors killed 613 innocent and unarmed people,” he noted.
“Among them were 106 women, 83 children. Fifty-six people were killed with special brutality. Eight families were totally exterminated. Twenty-five children were totally, and 130 children were partly orphaned. Four hundred and seventy-six people became disabled persons (of them 76 were minors), while 1275 people were taken into hostage and even though afterwards most of the hostages were released from captivity, the fates of 150 of them are still unknown.”
Speakers at the event said the Khojaly tragedy was a crime not only against Azerbaijanis but also against the whole humanity.
The event culminated with the adoption of an appeal to the Parliament of Ukraine, OSCE, UN and other international organizations.
