Victims of Khojaly genocide commemorated in foreign countries
Baku, February 29 (AZERTAC). The Azerbaijani embassy in Korea held an event on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
The event brought together representatives of Azerbaijan-Korea Students Organization, diplomatic corps, NGOs and the teaching staff. Azeri ambassador Rovshan Jamshidov told of history of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the Khojaly genocide. The participants watched documentary on the tragedy and visited a photo exhibition.
An address to the world community on the Khojaly genocide was signed by Azerbaijan, Korea and 20 countries, including Turkey, US, Mexico, Paraguay, France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Norway, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kirgizstan, Afghanistan, Sudan, China, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar and New Zealand.

The Australia-Azerbaijan-Turk Friendship Society and Federation of the Turkish Organizations held a series of event to mark the 20th anniversary of Khojaly Genocide in Australia. The books published by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation were disseminated among the participants. The chief of the society Imamaddin Gasimov told of history of Khojaly tragedy. He said: “At night from February 25 to 26 the Armenian armed forces occupied the town of Khojaly. The occupation was carried out with active support of several units of the Russian Army`s 366th regiment. Occupation of Khojaly was followed with unprecedented brutalities against the civilian population. In a few hours the aggressors killed 613 innocent and unarmed people. Among them were 106 women, 83 children. 56 people were killed with special brutality. 8 families were totally exterminated. 25 children were totally, and 130 children were partly orphaned. 476 people became disabled persons (of them 76 were minors). 1275 people were taken into hostage and even though afterwards most of the hostages were released from captivity, the fates of 150 of them are still unknown.

A photo exhibition on the 20th anniversary of Khojaly genocide opened in Turkey`s Grand National Assembly.
Chairman of the Assembly Jamil Cichak said the parliamentarians held discussions on raising awareness of the world community about the genocide. “The people of Turkey and Azerbaijan bound with the same roots and have common joy and grief,” Mr. Chicak said.
The chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Turkish FM Ahmad Davudoglu, the MPs saw the photo exhibition.
