WUF13 festival brings information session to Khankendi

On 10 May, an information session dedicated to the thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) was held at Karabakh University, bringing together academic staff and students. The session formed part of ongoing efforts to raise public awareness across the country about WUF13 and its significance.
Geray Zeynalli, a representative of Karabakh University, welcomed participants and spoke about the ongoing reconstruction and development efforts in Khankendi. Highlighting the significance of WUF13, he noted that students of Karabakh University are set to play an active role in the Event, both as participants and as volunteers.
Speaking at the event, Ramiz Idrisoghlu, a representative of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, highlighted the country’s achievements in urban development, with particular emphasis on the large-scale reconstruction efforts underway in the liberated territories. He noted that in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions, the focus extends beyond restoration to the creation of entirely new settlements built to modern standards. It was also reported that master plans for eight cities and urban planning frameworks for 101 villages and settlements have already been approved.
Ramiz Idrisoghlu underlined that the projects currently being implemented are shaping a new ecosystem grounded in “smart city” and “smart village” concepts, underpinned by renewable energy solutions and green zoning principles. He added that the phased return of residents to these settlements is already under way.
Eldar Rasulov, Senior Manager for Content and Media Relations at the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operations Company, delivered a detailed briefing on the Event and extended an invitation to academic staff and students to take part, noting that the programme has now been formally unveiled. He emphasised that participants will be able to engage both in person and online, with full details of the Event’s agenda available at www.wuf13.az .
The WUF13 Festival will continue at 18:00 with an evening public programme set to unfold in Victory Square.
Through a series of interactive activities, educational games, presentations and public discussions, the programme will bring key themes to a broad audience, including sustainable urban development, inclusive urban environments, innovative city solutions and the cities of the future. It will also offer a comprehensive overview of WUF13’s central theme and guiding ideas.
