YARAT presents exhibition and symposium as part of COP29
Baku, November 15, AZERTAC
YARAT Contemporary Art Space presented the exhibition “Beyond Utility” by Azerbaijani artist Aida Mahmudova and the one-day symposium “Art and Climate Change” as part of COP29 from November 11-13.
“Beyond Utility” is an exhibition reflecting Aida Mahmudova's artistic experiments and in-depth research into the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan. Inspired by nature, the artist continually expresses the magnificent beauty of its landscapes, wildlife, and climate in her work. In recent years, she has been creating her pieces using natural materials of various textures and unique compositions.
In developing her exhibition, Aida Mahmudova went beyond just working in her studio. She collaborated with local artisans to bring a contemporary twist to traditional Azerbaijani art. Her 2024 ceramic series, titled “Beyond Utility”, explores both material and narrative in depth, weaving a poetic connection between tradition and modernity by reinterpreting classic forms of clay vessels. Inspired by her photo archive of Azerbaijani landscapes, Mahmudova employs decal techniques to illustrate personal stories and memories throughout the series.
The Art and Climate Change Symposium was dedicated to art promotion, climate care, and a sustainable future. The idea and concept behind this unique event were developed by Aida Mahmudova. The speakers at the symposium, consisting of panel sessions on four topics, were invited from various foreign countries.
