7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue features plenary session on tourism, equity and peace
Baku, October 27, AZERTAC
The 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, themed “Dialogue for a Shared Future,” featured a plenary session entitled “Tourism for a Shared Future: How Inclusion, Equity and Community Leadership Are Quietly Building Peace.”
Organised in collaboration with the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) and Azerbaijan’s State Tourism Agency, the session aims to explore how tourism can promote inclusion, strengthen social connections and support peacebuilding by broadening participation, empowering communities and helping societies become fairer and more resilient.
The session also seeks to examine the conditions under which tourism can contribute to positive peace, particularly through community leadership involving women, young people, Indigenous communities, rural populations and people with disabilities. The discussion is framed around the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, its Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, with examples from different regions highlighting practical, community-led initiatives.
The interactive panel will discuss the factors behind the success of these initiatives, the challenges they face and the lessons that can be applied elsewhere to strengthen intercultural understanding and ensure that the benefits of tourism are more widely shared.
