Monument to Azerbaijani WW II hero unveiled in Slovenia

Maribor, November 17, AZERTAC

A monument to the Soviet and Slovenian WW II hero, brave son of Azerbaijan Mehdi Huseynzade has been unveiled in Maribor, Slovenia. The event was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan`s Embassy, Slovenian War Veterans Union and Maribor mayor's office, foreign diplomatic corps as well as military attaches, parliamentarians and public figures.

Speakers said that the Slovenians will never forget Azerbaijani hero Mehdi Huseynzade, nicknamed "Mikhaylo", who showed outstanding heroism during liberation of Slovenia. They underlined that phenomenon of "Mikhaylo" plays a crucial role in strengthening friendly ties between the Azerbaijani and Slovenian people.

Azerbaijani Ambassador Galib Israfilov emphasized that the unveiling of the monument is important in conveying the legacy of heroes who fought against Nazis to next generations.
