Azerbaijan, African countries explore parliamentary cooperation

Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with a group of deputy speakers of the parliaments of the African states.
The African officials are visiting Baku to attend the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States.
The African parliamentarians praised Azerbaijan’s lofty organization of the conference, while also highlighting key takeaways from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s message to the conference participants.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova briefed the deputy speakers on Azerbaijan’s existing environment of multiculturalism and tolerance, while also mentioning the successful outcomes of the country’s state policy aimed at preserving and advancing the Islamic values.
The meeting reviewed the current state and development of cooperation among the parliaments of the OIC member states, while emphasizing the importance of enhancing collaboration between the Milli Majilis and the parliaments of African states in international parliamentary organizations, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN), and the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC).
The meeting also addressed other matters of mutual concern.
