Azerbaijan, World Customs Organization enhance cooperation

On July 13, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Ian Saunders, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO).
During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the WCO. They also exchanged views on facilitation of international trade, border security, digitalization of customs systems, combating illegal trade, strengthening the sustainability of supply chains, and increasing the capacity in the customs sector.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to productive cooperation with the WCO. The minister highlighted the reforms implemented in the customs sector in Azerbaijan, the expansion of transit opportunities and the efforts to facilitate international trade.
The FM noted that Azerbaijan's contribution to the development of East-West and North-South transport corridors plays a crucial role in strengthening regional and global trade relations.
FM Bayramov provided insight into new realities in the region, the peace process, as well as the construction efforts and infrastructure projects implemented in the liberated territories.
The minister also highlighted the large-scale projects implemented to further strengthen the country's position as a vital transport and logistics hub in Eurasia. In this context, the minister emphasized that Azerbaijan's growing role in international supply chain thanks to enhancing the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, the development of the Middle Corridor, the expansion of the Baku International Sea Trade Port, and the operation of the Alat Free Economic Zone have opened up new opportunities to increase the efficiency of customs procedures and facilitate trade.
The parties emphasized the importance of enhancement of international customs cooperation, the application of innovative technologies, information exchange, and the further development of institutional cooperation.
The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual concern.
