Azerbaijani-Turkish delegation visits Mississippi State
Baku, February 24 (AZERTAC). The Azerbaijani-Turkish delegation held a series of meetings in the Senate, House of Representatives and other official structures of Mississippi State.
The delegation includes the MPs Sevinc Fataliyeva and Asim Mollazade, Vice-president of Azerbaijan State Oil Company (SOCAR) Khalik Mammadov and Azerbaijani ambassador to USA Elin Suleymanov.
During the meetings in the Senate, Asim Mollazade said Azerbaijan is a strategic ally of the USA in the region. He stressed significance of development of bilateral relations between the two states. The MP updated the participants about the country`s achievements.
Senator John Horn stressed the importance of American-Azerbaijani relations. He expressed his confidence this factor will give impetus to further development of bilateral relations between the Mississippi state and Azerbaijan. A resolution N 561, which supports bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the USA, was passed.
Azerbaijani delegation also participated in the session of the House of Representatives. On Armenian military aggression against Azerbaijan, Mr. Mollazade said the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide is marked in all regions of Azerbaijan. The House of Representatives also passed a resolution on Azerbaijan.
The Turkish-Azerbaijani and Mississippian business-summit with participation of the US officials, secretary of state of Mississippi state, senators and members of the House of Representatives held as a part of the visit.
The congressman Greg Harbor and Secretary of State Delbert Housman hailed rapid development of Azerbaijani-Turkish-American relations.
SOCAR vice-president Khalik Mammadov told of Azerbaijan`s achievements in economy, oil and gas industry and non-oil sector over the past 20 years. Mr. Mammadov said SOCAR became one of the world`s leading oil companies. He said Azerbaijan plays a key role in energy security of the region. The basis was laid in 1994 during the signing of the “Contract of century”.
The TurkAz Council gave a reception with participation of the US officials, congressmen and senators, members of the Azerbaijani-Turkish delegation, Azerbaijan ambassador to US Elin Suleymanov, chief of Houston-Baku twin-towers association Irada Akhundova and Diaspora activists.
The Azerbaijani delegation will also attend the upcoming events in Washington on the occasion of establishment of the diplomatic relations between the USA and Azerbaijan and meetings in Arkansas and Oklahoma States.
