Azerbaijan’s CEC Chairman meets with Bulgarian counterpart

Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC), met with his Bulgarian counterpart, Kameliya Neykova, and her accompanying delegation, who are in Azerbaijan to monitor the snap parliamentary elections that commenced on Sunday.

During the meeting, CEC Chairman Panahov commended the Bulgarian Central Election Commission's observation mission for its role in overseeing the parliamentary elections. He provided the delegation with detailed information about the election process, noting that 598 international observers and over 112,000 local observers are monitoring the electoral process. He also mentioned that 1,000 webcams have been installed at polling stations nationwide, allowing for direct and continuous online observation on Election Day without requiring registration.

Mazahir Panahov highlighted that 6,421,960 voters are eligible to cast their ballots, with 990 candidates competing for parliamentary seats. He emphasized that all necessary opportunities were created for candidates to use all means of the pre-election campaign as stipulated by the legislation and that 305 candidates were nominated by 25 political parties. He added that media outlets are freely operating and monitoring the electoral process in the country.

The CEC Chairman also mentioned that three organizations have been registered to conduct exit polls during the snap parliamentary elections.

He further stated that 6,478 polling stations have been established across the country, including 6,343 permanent and 135 temporary ones.

Panahov noted that this election marks the first time parliamentary elections are conducted across Azerbaijan's entire sovereign territory, with all necessary conditions created to facilitate voting for eligible voters.

He added that 54 polling stations have been set up in the liberated Azerbaijani territories to allow over 42,000 voters to exercise their constitutional rights.

Bulgarian CEC Chairperson Kameliya Neykova expressed her satisfaction with participating in the observation of the snap elections to the Milli Majlis and emphasized her commitment to actively monitoring the electoral processes.

She said that the parliamentary elections were conducted excellently and noted the high voter turnout witnessed during her visits to several polling stations since morning.

The meeting also included discussions on various issues related to the elections.
