Azerbaijan`s Ombudsperson meets Swedish ambassador

Baku, March 31 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani commissioner for human rights Elmira Suleymanova has met with the Swedish ambassador Mikael Eriksson.

During the conversation, Suleymanova briefed the Ambassador on activity of Azerbaijan`s Ombudsman Office. She stressed the Office pays special attention to cooperation with state bodies, NGOs, civil society, international cooperation as well.

Speaking on the progress made in protection of children`s rights Ombudsperson underlined that Azerbaijan signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse.

Suleymanova also spoke of amendments and supplements to the Constitutional Law “On the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, Azerbaijan Republic Law “On the right to obtain information”. She informed Eriksson on the National Action Program in order to increase effectiveness of human rights and freedoms protection in Azerbaijan.

In turn, the Ambassador hailed Ombudsman Office`s activity, saying they are interested in cooperation with the Office.
