AZERI FM, OSCE CHAIRPERSON-IN-OFFICE BRIEF JOURNALISTS IN BAKU
Baku, February 15 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Kazakh Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev have today held a press conference on the outcomes of their meetings.
Mammadyarov noted during the meeting they highlighted the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
He said official Baku approvers of the updated version of the basic principles for settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict offered by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in Athens. But these principles include some points which do not satisfy Azerbaijan, he added.
Mammadyarov noted recently he had a conversation with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov who said that “Armenia has not declared its position on the updated version of the principles yet.”
He also added the existing status- quo in settlement of the conflict was unacceptable.
Mammadyarov also said he supports Kazakhstan `s proposal to hold an OSCE summit in Astana.
Kanat Saudabayev, in turn, said he had very constructive talks with Elmar Mammadyarov.
He noted the purpose of his visit was to discuss settlement of the conflict with the sides and define future steps.
According to him, official Astana hopes that 2010 will be a decisive for settlement of the conflict.
Saudabayev said one of the priorities of Kazakhstan`s OSCE Presidency was to contribute to settling protracted conflicts including that over Nagorno-Karabakh.
He also underlined in 1991 Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev had participated in settlement process of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Currently, President Nazarbayev keeps the issue in the focus of his attention, as well, he added.
