AZERI MM SPEAKER MEETS POLISH PREMIER
Baku, March 10 (AZERTAC). Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament (Milli Majlis) Ogtay Asadov has today met visiting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Asadov said high-level reciprocal visits contribute to developing friendly relations between the two countries.
He particularly underlined the role of the two countries` leaders in enhancement of bilateral cooperation.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Asadov said the dispute must be settled on the basis of the principles of international law, in particular territorial integrity of states. “Today, more than 1500 ethnic conflicts exist around the world. If they are allowed to establish their own state, the world`s political map must be redrawn.”
He added Azerbaijan would never agree that a second state be established in its territory.
Asadov also thanked the Polish government for backing Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
On the energy cooperation, the Speaker said Azerbaijan supports the Odessa-Brody-Plotsk-Gdansk oil pipeline project.
For his part, Donald Tusk said Azerbaijan and Poland enjoy “deep-rooted relations”, and vowed to spare no efforts to contribute to developing them even more.
The Prime Minister hailed Azerbaijan`s recent accomplishments in energy sphere.
He noted the fact that Azerbaijan managed to survive the global financial crisis with minimum losses shows that the country`s leadership pursues right policy.
Tusk also praised the interparliamentary ties between the two countries.
He underlined the necessity of expanding bilateral cooperation within the European Union, particularly the Eastern partnership program.
He added Poland would place special emphasis on expansion of EU-Azerbaijan relationship when the country takes over the EU Presidency.
