AZERI MPs MEET INDONESIAN DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Baku, April 21 (AZERTAC). Members of the working group on Azerbaijan-Indonesia interparliamentary ties met Wednesday visiting Indonesian Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Pramono Anung Vibon.
Head of the Group Bakhtiyar Aliyev briefed him on the ongoing economic reforms in his country.
He said thanks to the successful economic policy, the poverty level in Azerbaijan fell to 11% as of today from 70 % in the first years of independence.
“Azerbaijan is a leader country in the South Caucasus, but the fact that 20 percent of the country`s territories are under Armenian occupation hampers the economic development in the region.”
He pointed out in the wake of Armenia`s aggressive policy, more than one million Azerbaijanis were driven out from their homelands.
Aliyev noted drug trafficking and illegal arms trade in the uncontrolled areas emerged as a result of Armenian occupation pose a threat to regional security.
Aliyev thanked the Indonesian government and parliament for supporting Azerbaijan`s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Pramono Anung Vibon said the purpose of the visit was to exchange views on how to contribute to boosting bilateral cooperation, particularly inter-parliamentary ties.
He noted his country was keen on expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan.
Indonesia understands Azerbaijan`s problems very well, as it suffered from aggression and ethnic separatism, as well.
He reiterated his country`s stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying “we support Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.”
Azerbaijani ambassador to Indonesia Ibrahim Hajıyev was present in the meeting.
