Baku hosts meeting of Intergovernmental Commission of Azerbaijan and Estonia
Baku, June 28 (AZERTAC). The first meeting of Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Estonia has been held today here.
Addressing the meeting Azerbaijani minister of communications and information technology Ali Abbasov briefed the Estonian delegation on the ongoing economic reforms in the country. He highlighted the progress done to develop non-oil sector in Azerbaijan.
The minister also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict describing it as an obstacle to development of the country and region.
The meeting participants spoke of prospects for trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Estonia. They said the two countries were interested in cooperation in transport, industry, ICT and financial spheres.
Estonian Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts said reciprocal visits of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Estonia contributed to deepening bilateral relations. He said Azerbaijan had strong economic potential. “In this regard, Estonia can cooperate with Azerbaijan in tourism, transport and communication areas.”
Juhan Parts spoke of the current economic situation in his country. He also said the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains a serious obstacle to development and security of the region. “The problem must be settled on the basis of principles of international law.”
