BAKU MEETING OF AZERBAIJANI-RUSSIAN INTERPARLIAMENTARY COMMISSION ‘SUCCESS’
Baku, December 23 (AZERTAC). Deputy speaker of the Council of Federation of Russia`s Federal Assembly Svetlana Orlova has praised the results of the 8th meeting of an Azerbaijan-Russia interparliamentary commission.
Speaking to Ogtay Asadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan`s Parliament, on Tuesday, Orlova said the meeting was a “success” and marked “fruitful discussions”.
“In our previous meetings we discussed a wide range of questions of mutual concern, in particular economic and legal issues. We adopted a number of legislations, laying solid legal foundations for our future joint work.”
“And our today`s gathering was a follow-up to the previous ones, and was as much as fruitful,” Orlova added.
She praised the role of the two countries` presidents in “deepening our interparliamentary cooperation and bringing our nations closer to each other”.
She also hailed her meetings with Azeri officials, saying “we`ve had fruitful talks here”.
The Azeri Speaker echoed Orlova`s words, saying: “We also believe the Baku meeting will be a help to our efforts to deepen the cooperation between our parliaments.”
Asadov said his country placed a “particular importance” on its relationship with Russia.
“We enjoy good relations with the Russian Federation. We have no problems, we cope with all our tasks through negotiations, successful talks,” added Asadov.
The Azeri Speaker also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, praising Russia`s recent mediation efforts “as a co-chair of the Minsk Group”.
Asadov reiterated Azerbaijan`s stance on the issue, and said the conflict “must be solved based on international legal norms”.
