Billionaire Warren Buffett Charity Lunch Auction goes live on eBay
Baku, June 6 (AZERTAC). While the billionaires are known to spend thousands of dollars in one go, splurging it out on the most expensive champagne, wines, caviars and most expensive food items, there are those, who command millions of dollars just to have lunch with (read Waren Buffet charity lunch), and there is still no dearth of takers. The billionaire in this case is Warren Buffet and you can become his lunch companion provided you have plenty of dough, but for a philanthropic cause. We had earlier reported on this unique auction where a bidder agreed to pay as much as $2.6 million for a lunch with Warren Buffet. The same San Francisco charity which held the auction last year is back with their exclusive offer. With $25,000 as the base price, bidding starts at 10:30pm EDT on June 8 via eBay.
The auction proceeds go to Glide Foundations- a body working in the segment of social services for the poor in San Francisco. All rules and nuances pertaining to the auction remain same as last year, except one. This year there will be no guarantee of the winner landing a job with Berkshire Hathaway- Buffet’s conglomerate. And talking of auction winners, who donned the crown last year? Ted Weschler a professional fund manager shelled out $2.6 million to be Buffet’s lunch companion. Ted bagged a plush job at Berkshire as investment manager. Even if you manage to become the top bidder at this year’s auctions, you may not be as lucky as Ted. On a brighter note though, you can enjoy a gala time with Buffet at Smith & Wollensky steakhouse in Manhattan accompanied by seven of your friends. This year’s auction will reportedly mark the thirteenth year of Glide’s innovative dinner auctions. The previous 12 sessions had raised over $11.5 million.
With a self-made billionaire like Warren Buffet who started off as a salesman, and became the world’s richest man in 2008, the stakes have always been high. It is his undying love for all things charity that sets Buffet apart from rest of the pack. He happens to be one of those rare rich people who has pledged to donate 99% of his wealth to charity and social causes. All aspects considered, even a little time with somebody like Buffet, we are sure, will turn out to be an interesting one.
