Britain and Azerbaijan to boost relations
Baku, June 6 (AZERTAC). SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev has met on Tuesday with the delegation of members of the UK House of Lords, including Lord Mohamed Iltaf Sheikh, Lord Kamlesh Kumar Patel, Lord Hugh John Maxwell Dyke and Richard John Grenville Spring, Lord Risby.
During the meeting, SOCAR President praised the Azerbaijan-UK cooperation, touching upon the role of the mutual visits to strengthen and broaden the existing ties.
He expressed his confidence that during the visit, the British guests would get detailed information on social-economical development of Azerbaijan, familiarize themselves with Azerbaijani capital and nation, would be able to learn more about established democratic values, national and religious tolerance in the country.
Lord Mohamed Iltaf Sheikh stressed that they were informed about the high level development of Azerbaijan, which became one of the progressive European countries.
The Lords expressed satisfaction to be here and thanked SOCAR President for the warm invitation and reception.
The delegation also congratulated the head of the company on the opening of the 19th International Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference.
R. Abdullayev said “Azerbaijan has rich history in oil industry. Baku oilmen have made the valuable contribution to development of the world oil industry and during the soviet period they discovered the major oil and gas fields located in the various national sectors of the Caspian Sea.”
Speaking about the new oil strategy being successfully conducted in Azerbaijan under the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and projects of regional importance realized within this strategy, SOCAR president told guests about the oil and gas pipelines which carry Azerbaijani oil to the World Market.
Mr. Abdullayev also spoke of the investment projects being realized in the country, as well as ecological, medical and educational programs. “In realization of educational projects the significant importance is attached to the British experience and creation of close ties with the English universities and other educational centers,” Abdullayev added.
The British guests have invited Mr. Rovnag Abdullayev to deliver a presentation at the UK House of Lords.
