CENTER FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES HOSTS MEETING ON AZERBAIJAN-GERMANY RELATIONS
Baku, March 11 (AZERTAC). A meeting on Azerbaijan-Germany relationship in the South Caucasus context was held Thursday in the Center for Strategic Studies under the Azerbaijan President.
German ambassador Per Christopher Stanchina made a presentation in the event on political, economic and humanitarian cooperation between Azerbaijan and Germany.
The diplomat praised the political relations between Azerbaijan and Germany.
He particularly stressed the importance of the recent meeting held between President Ilham Aliyev and Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on the sidelines of the 46th Munich Security Conference. He also added President Ilham Aliyev`s speech in the conference aroused great interest.
The ambassador said not only Germany, but the whole Europe attaches special importance to cooperation with Azrebaijan. “Azerbaijan, having strong economic potential, guarantees stability in the South Caucasus region, and plays great role in Europe`s energy security.”|
The Ambassador hailed the bilateral economic cooperation, saying Azerbaijan was one of the biggest energy suppliers for Germany.
He also noted trade turnover between the two countries increase steadely.
The ambassador also praised the cultural cooperation between the two countries, saying 2008 was proclaimed culture year of Azerbaijan in Germany while Baku hosted German cultural weeks last year.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Ambassador said the dispute must be settled on the basis of the principles of international law.
The event was attended by officials of the Foreign Ministry and Diplomatic Academy, MPs, ambassadors and experts.
