DEFENSE MINISTER MEETS NATO PA SUB-COMMITTEE`s CHIEF
Baku, 12 April (AZERTAC). Defense minister of Azerbaijan Safar Abiyev met Monday chairman of NATO Parliamentary Assembly`s Sub-Committee on NATO Partnerships Rainer Stinner.
Abiyev briefed Stinner on the ongoing economic, political and military reforms in his country. He said Azerbaijan attaches significant importance to integration into European structures, including cooperation with NATO.
Touching upon the military and political situation in the South Caucasus, Abiyev said obstacles to peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict aggravate the situation in the region.
He noted Azerbaijan will never reconcile itself with the fact that its territories are under occupation. “Aggressive Armenia must understand this fact,” he added.
The minister also underlined an international legal basis exists for peaceful settlement of the conflict, and mentioned the United Nations-adopted resolutions regarding withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
