EIGHTH MEETING OF DIALOGUE EURASIA PLATFORM GA KICKS OFF IN ANTALYA
Nearly 160 officials from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine gathered for the 8th meeting of the Dialogue Eurasia Platform (DEP) General Assembly on theme “Tolerance and Discrimination in Education” kicked off at the “Rixos” hotel in Antalya, Turkey on November 14.
Azerbaijan is represented at the meeting by a high-level delegation comprised of Deputy Prime Minister Elchin Efendiyev, Head of the Socio-Political Department at the President`s Administration Ali Hasanov and members of the Milli Majlis.
In his opening remark, Turkish Minister for Education Huseyn Celik focused on the role of education, specifically, student exchange programs, in bringing closer Eurasian nations and strengthening their cooperation in this field.
Also on the meeting`s agenda are issues such as development of intercultural dialogue, basic principles of ensuring peace and stability in the region.
Participants of the meeting are expected to hear DEP`s 2006-2008 report, and approve a plan of actions for 2008-2010. They are also going to select the organization`s new chairmen, who will succeed Azerbaijan`s people`s poet Anar and Turkish Professor Ilber Ortay.
The meeting will run until November 16.
