Grand National Assembly of Turkey releases statement on Khojaly genocide
Ankara, February 22 (AZERTAC). The Committee on Foreign Relations of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey made a statement on Khojaly tragedy.
According to Volkan Bozkir, Chairman of the Committee, the statement was unanimously signed by all members of the committee.
The statement reads: "Khojaly is the black page in the history of the mankind, written by Armenia. As a result of the planned massacre committed by the Armenians in the town of Khojaly located in Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, 613 Azerbaijanis including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly people were killed, some 1275 were captured by the Armenians and 150 people went missing on the night from 25 to 26 February, 1992. The Khojaly event is a crime against humanity.
The Turkish nation feels a very deep sadness for the victims of the massacre committed against the Azerbaijanis, and strongly condemns it. People around the world should feel the torment suffered by the victims of this carnage.
Turkey will continue to support the just fight of Azerbaijan to scrutinize and achieve the punishment of those who have committed illegal acts contradicting the basic human rights and values.
