HEYDAR ALIYEV FOUNDATION SUPPORTS GENOCIDE MEMORIAL IN GUBA REGION
Baku, March 16 (AZERTAC). A genocide Memorial will be erected on the mass grave in Guba region of Azerbaijan with the support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The memorial is dedicated to the memory of people who were killed as a result of Armenia`s aggression and ethnic cleansing policy.
The most awful genocides of the 20th century were committed by Armenians in many regions of Azerbaijan. Tens of thousands of people suffered from Armenia`s violence and were exiled from their homeland. Lots of settlements were razed to the ground.
Guba region of Azerbaijan was one of those many to face with the genocide. Thus, 122 villages were completely destroyed in a genocide committed in Guba in April-May of 1918. As a result, the Lezgins, Jews, Tats and other ethnic minorities were cruelly killed alongside with innocent Azerbaijani people.
The Genocide Memorial on the mass grave in Guba will bring out the truth about brutal crimes committed by the Armenian nationalists. The monument will serve also as a tribute to the victims of the genocide.
Heydar Aliyev Foundation has established a working group to study the world`s experience and make several sketches of the Genocide Memorial.
