COP29
Hosting COP is important for global progress, says expert
London, September 6, AZERTAC
“Climate change is a global challenge. It is important that communities and nations around the world host this event and contribute to the progress that needs to be made,” Dan Parsons, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Loughborough University, Professor in Geosciences told AZERTAC.
“I am hopeful that significant progress will be made on adherence to the Paris Agreement and that we will think more creatively about unlocking finance to drive climate-compatible growth,” the expert noted.
Noting that he is really looking forward to attending COP29 Conference, Dan Parsons said that a delegation from Loughborough University will visit the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku this November.
“I'm also excited to visit Azerbaijan. The first time I heard about Azerbaijan was as a seven-year-old when they lost to Wales in football. I’ve never been there, so I’m very much looking forward to it,” the British professor emphasized.
Touching upon the transitioning to net zero emissions, Parsons noted that the process is going to involve so many people across the globe working collaboratively and in partnership.
“So I'm really keen on international partnerships, international collaborative endeavours that fuse the talent and the skills of people here at Loughborough University with places like Azerbaijan and elsewhere around the world where we work internationally across borders to meet the challenge of global climate change,” he added.
