IAEA GENERAL CONFERENCE CONVENES IN VIENNA
Baku, Sept. 17 (AZERTAC). The 53rd General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) commenced in Vienna, Austria. At the conference attended by 1500 representative from over 100 world countries, Azerbaijan is represented by a delegation headed by president of the National Academy of Sciences, academician Mahmud Karimov.
The permanent representative of Azerbaijan at IAEA, ambassador Fuad Ismayilov on the basis of the nominee put forward by the East European group, has been elected as the vice-president of the Steering Committee of General Conference for the period of session.
On the second day of Conference, the head of delegation of Azerbaijan, president of National Academy of Sciences Mahmud Karimov made a report. The report marked successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and IAEA, the work done by Azerbaijan in this area.
Azerbaijan successfully co-operates with IAEA, and country strategy is directed on use of nuclear technologies only for the peace purposes, noted Mahmud Karimov.
All projects realized in Azerbaijan in the frame of technical cooperation with IAEA, are directed on solution of the social and economic problems representing priority value. Now Azerbaijan with support of IAEA successfully participates in 9 national and 32 regional projects, Mr. Karimov said.
53rd session of IAEA General Conference will last till September 18.
