Berlin, January 20 (AZERTAC). A commemoration ceremony to mark the 23rd anniversary of the Black January tragedy was organized in the Azerbaijan Embassy in Germany.
The event started with a minute of silence to commemorate 20 January victims.
Addressing the ceremony, ambassador Parviz Shahbazov spoke of the history of the tragedy, Azerbaijani people`s struggle for independence and freedom, reason and results of the tragedy. He condemned the Soviet leadership`s actions against the Azerbaijani people.
Mr. Shahbazov noted that thanks to national leader Heydar Aliyev the tragedy was given a political and legal assessment.
The memory of the 20 January martyrs will be engraved in the heart of the Azerbaijani people and will never be forgotten, the diplomat emphasized.
Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Ismat Abbasov, who was in Berlin to participate at the International Green Week-2013 fair, made remark in the event.
The event also saw performance of Azerbaijani pianist Togrul Huseynli.
The event attended by Azerbaijani delegation, representatives of sociopolitical circles of Germany, employees of the Foreign Ministry of the country, and members of the Azerbaijani Diaspora.
The participants familiarized themselves with a photo exhibition organized by Azerbaijani Embassy on the Black January.
