Azerbaijan Army commemorates 20 January martyrs

In accordance with the plan approved by the Minister of Defense, a series of events were organized in the Azerbaijan Army on the occasion of 20 January – National Mourning Day, the Ministry of Defense told AZERTAC.
On January 20, at 12:00, on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the tragedy, the memory of martyrs was honored with a minute of silence in all types of troops (forces), the Combined Arms Army, army corps and formations, as well as special educational institutions of the Azerbaijan Army.
Speakers at the events emphasized that the 20 January tragedy holds a special place in the heroic chronicle of the Azerbaijani people, noting that this bloody event failed to break the nation’s will for freedom and, on the contrary, further strengthened the struggle for independence. Detailed information was provided on the consistent and purposeful policy pursued by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev, to raise global awareness of these tragic events.
Within the events, Alleys of Martyrs were visited, lectures on the topic were delivered, documentary films were screened, as well as photo and book exhibitions were organized.
