Azerbaijan among countries supplying fuel to Kyrgyzstan
Baku, October 29, AZERTAC
The first shipments of fuel from China have begun arriving in Kyrgyzstan by rail, Kanatbek Eshatov, President of the Association of Oil Traders of Kyrgyzstan, told the Kabar News Agency on the sidelines of a meeting dedicated to ensuring the country’s energy stability.
According to Eshatov, Kyrgyzstan previously imported fuel primarily from Russia, but now also receives supplies from countries including Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Belarus and Türkiye.
“In August, during the summer, our representatives, accompanied by government officials, visited China and signed agreements with major Chinese companies. Initially, fuel was transported by road. However, today, October 28, the first shipments from China have begun arriving in Kyrgyzstan by rail,” he said.
Eshatov noted that the diesel fuel supply situation in Kyrgyzstan was currently stable, while the country was experiencing a slight shortage of petrol, making it difficult to purchase the desired volumes. As a result, Kyrgyzstan is seeking to diversify its sources of fuel supplies and increase import volumes.
“We aim to increase our domestic reserves. Ideally, we would like to build up a two- to three-month supply of petrol,” he said.
According to Eshatov, Kyrgyzstan consumes around 1,200 tonnes of petrol and a similar volume of diesel fuel daily. Total daily domestic fuel consumption amounts to approximately 2,500–3,000 tonnes.
