ASAN Khidmet and UN to organize international summit in Baku
Baku, October 29, AZERTAC
An international summit entitled “UN Governance Innovation Summit: Advancing Future-Ready Institutions” will be held in Baku on November 5–6.
The event will be jointly organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Mahammadali Khudaverdiyev, Head of the International Relations Department of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan, provided an overview of the summit’s objectives, programme, and preparations.
He also emphasized that the summit would be held within the framework of the Contribution Agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the UN in November 2024.
The summit will focus on innovation in public administration, public sector transformation, and the application of multifaceted approaches to delivering public services in an innovative and integrated manner. It will also introduce the ASAN Khidmet model and address key issues, including South–South, North–South, and triangular cooperation in this field.
The event is expected to bring together around 200 participants, including the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, ministers and senior officials from UN member states, heads of international and regional organizations, development partners, and representatives of the private sector and academia.
The Contribution Agreement aims to promote the ASAN Khidmet model across four continents through the UN and organize international events in this field. It also provides for training programmes for civil servants from UN member states, particularly those classified as least developed countries (LDCs), landlocked developing countries (LLDCs), and small island developing states (SIDS). The training will focus on advanced governance, public service delivery, and the implementation of the ASAN Khidmet model.
As part of the project, the UN has organized international events to promote the ASAN Khidmet model worldwide. These have been held at UN Headquarters in New York, at the African Union Headquarters for African countries, and in the Dominican Republic for countries in the Caribbean region.
