Prosecutor General: Azerbaijan plans to join Mecca Convention
Baku, October 28, AZERTAC
“Corruption negatively affects the well-being of millions of people worldwide, undermines the rule of law, destabilizes economic and social stability, and creates a favorable environment for organized crime. The adverse effects of corruption are observed across all legal systems. Therefore, it is a global phenomenon and a common challenge for us all,” Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev said at the Third Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities of the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Baku.
According to the Prosecutor General, strong political will is one of the key factors in ensuring the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts.
“Azerbaijan has ratified the United Nations Convention against Corruption, the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, and the Council of Europe conventions on civil and criminal liability for corruption, and plans to join the Mecca Convention,” Kamran Aliyev emphasized.
“Our country focuses not only on punitive measures but also on preventing corruption. In this regard, ASAN Khidmet centres, which provide public services in a unified, coordinated and transparent manner based on the ‘single window’ principle, have made a significant contribution to ensuring transparency in public administration.
“Another key aspect of our anti-corruption policy is cooperation and the exchange of experience with international partners, as we must join forces to combat this social scourge. I am confident that the discussions held during this conference will provide an opportunity to reaffirm and renew our commitment to the global fight against corruption,” the Prosecutor General noted.
