UN official: Azerbaijan makes significant contributions to girls’ education and women’s empowerment

“Azerbaijan’s commitment to girls’ education was demonstrated, among other initiatives, by a meeting held in Baku in 2017 in cooperation with UNESCO. The meeting adopted the ‘Global Humanitarian Call to Action’, aimed at promoting investment in girls’ education,” Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UN Women Deputy Executive Director for Normative Support, said in a video message to participants of the “Women Dialogue: Knowledge, Leadership and Opportunity: Empowering Women and Girls to Build Bridges for a Shared Future”.
She highlighted the expansion of the “Equal Opportunities in Technology” programme in Baku in April, which brought together Azerbaijani and Turkish partners to equip students with skills in emerging technologies.
Gumbonzvanda noted that the forum provided an opportunity to assess progress made since 2017, address remaining gaps, and renew commitments to girls’ education and women’s economic empowerment.
