Miguel Ángel Moratinos: Culture of peace is essential to preventing war
Baku, October 27, AZERTAC
“The leadership of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Culture put forward an initiative entitled ‘Culture for Peace.’ This was an innovative concept,” said Miguel Ángel Moratinos, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), who also serves as the UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia.
He made the remarks during the plenary session entitled “Culture at the Centre: SECUREd Pathways to a Shared Future,” held as part of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.
He noted that, from the perspective of the United Nations system, this was not so much a challenge as a major innovation, since the UN and UNESCO had already developed an important concept: a “Culture of Peace.”
“It is necessary to build a culture of peace to prevent war,” Miguel Ángel Moratinos emphasized.
