Bucharest, October 28, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan could become one of the fastest-growing international tourism destinations over the next decade, with foreign tourist overnight stays projected to rise by 116 percent by 2036.
Romanian outlets Afaceri.news and Mediafax reported on a new study on Europe’s tourism prospects.
A report headlined “The Changing Face of Europe’s Tourism Map to 2036”, commissioned by the Accor hotel group and based on forecasts by Tourism Economics, identifies Azerbaijan as one of the countries with the highest potential for growth in foreign tourist overnight stays.
The report projects a 116 percent increase in Azerbaijan between 2026 and 2036, compared with 83 percent in Latvia, 82 percent in Romania and 80 percent in Hungary.
It was noted that Europe is expected to remain a major global tourism hub over the next decade, with demand for accommodation projected to grow by 32 percent, adding 1.6 billion overnight stays annually. International tourist overnight stays are forecast to rise by 42 percent and domestic tourism by 24 percent.
In 2025, Europe welcomed 810 million international tourists, accounting for 53 percent of global arrivals, while tourism revenues exceeded €700 billion.
According to forecasts, spending by foreign tourists in Europe will exceed €1.3 trillion by 2036, up from €825 billion in 2026.
Experts say improved transport links, investment in tourism infrastructure, growing interest in new destinations and expanded international travel opportunities will reshape Europe’s tourism market.
The report forecasts tourism demand across 47 European countries for 2026–2036, noting that the figures are projections rather than actual results.
